  6. USING ZDCS WITH CD-ROMS
  7.  
  8. CD-ROMs are becoming more popular with sysops as a cost-effective way
  9. of making large collections of shareware and public domain software
  10. available to their callers for downloading.  But because a CD-ROM can
  11. contain so many megabytes of files, you might think it difficult to
  12. keep track of all the files and prevent any duplicates from being
  13. added to the collection.

  15. ZDCS provides the solution.  It serves both the sysop putting a CD-ROM
  16. online and the manufacturer preparing to master a new CD-ROM.

  19. IF YOU'RE A SYSOP
  20.  
  21. Sysops can take advantage of the pre-built ZDCS 2.01 databases
  22. available for many of the most popular CD-ROMs.  You'll find them
  23. available for individual download on The Hacker Central BBS, along
  24. with the merge utility package Z2-DBMG.ZIP.  Inside that ZIP package
  25. is the merge utility ZDCSDBMG.EXE and a detailed, step by step
  26. explanation of how to merge your existing ZDCS database with any of
  27. the pre-built ones.  It's a simple operation and much faster than
  28. creating a new database from scratch, but we've taken the chance on
  29. insulting your intelligence by laying out all the steps for you
  30. anyway.

  33. IF YOU'RE A CD-ROM MANUFACTURER
  34.  
  35. CD-ROM makers can use the database build feature of ZDCS to create a
  36. database of the file collection before it goes for final mastering.
  37. Then you can use the database report generator to identify any
  38. duplicates in the collection.  This gives you an easy way to clean up
  39. the files and assure your customers of a high quality collection of
  40. files.  In fact, we encourage you to put a ZDCS 2.01 database right on
  41. the CD-ROM for your customers' convenience.

  44. FREE REGISTRATION

  46. To make the use of pre-built databases even more attractive, we are
  47. making the following two offers, good through the end of 1993:

  49. 1. If you create a ZDCS 2.01 pre-built database for a commercial CD-
  50.    ROM that we don't already have in our collection on The Hacker
  51.    Central BBS (and that isn't supplied right on the CD-ROM), we will
  52.    trade you a full ZDCS registration for a copy of that database, to
  53.    make it available to other ZDCS users.

  55. 2. If you master a new CD-ROM and you put the ZDCS 2.01 pre-built
  56.    database for that CD-ROM right on the disk, we will give you a
  57.    full ZDCS registration when you notify us of the details (CD-ROM
  58.    name, company name, contact information, and expected release
  59.    date).

  61. If you have any questions, give The Hacker Central BBS a call.  You
  62. can browse the list of pre-built CD-ROM databases to see which ones
  63. are already completed.  You can even leave us a message in the ZDCS
  64. support conference to discuss "reserving" a CD-ROM for which you are
  65. creating the database.

  67. CD-ROMS are just one more reason why ZDCS is *simply* the best zipfile
  68. duplicate checking system.
